Clyne faces stiff challenge in West of Scotland Open
Included for a first time on the BSPA PeterNicolSquash.com Grand Prix, the Scotia Independent West of Scotland Open at Newlands in Glasgow has attracted a top-class field to test home favourite Alan Clyne.
Clyne won his first professional tournament in Virginia last month and is set to return to the PSA Tour at the Santiago Open in Spain next week.
But his first goal will be to overcome a field that includes English stars Simon Parke, Andy Whipp and Hadrian Stiff this weekend. In fact, six of England’s top 20 will be on show.
Parke, a former world top ten player, is the top seed with Whipp at no.2. Clyne is in the 5/8 bracket.
In the women’s event, there is also a strong English flavour with Becky Botwright and Emma Beddoes the top two seeds.
Leading the home challenge in the ten woman draw are Senga Macfie and Frania Gillen-Buchert.
