Clyne ends year on high

In his last event of 2009, Alan Clyne reached the final of the Fernando Vidal Salva Memorial tournament in Majorca.

Now ranked a career high of No.74 in the world, he put up a spirited effort before going down 7-11 7-11 6-11 to Germany's Simon Rosner in the finale.

Meanwhile Chris Ferguson, Scotland’s top junior, will be among the best of the home hopes at the traditional end of year Scottish Junior Open, sponsored by Novotel and Heriot-Watt University, at Riccarton.

Dougie Kempsell, Rosie Allan and the Lobbans, Greig and Kirsty, will be other leading local players in a tournament that has again attracted a world-class entry from all around the globe.

Ferguson is the No.1 Scot at under-19 level and is aiming to follow in the footsteps of such as Peter Nicol and Pam Nimmo in keeping the main title in Scotland.

Play runs from early morning until late evening and all the finals take place on Hogmonay.
