Inverness club member Alan Clyne won the Scottish Championship last year – and he has added the Scottish under-23 title in convincing fashion after a clean sweep of victories in the round-robin event at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.

In the title decider, 21-year-old Clyne beat Graham Melvin (Heriot-Watt University) 11-6 11-7 11-8 to complete the weekend without dropping a game.

Chris Ferguson (Waverley) beat Kevin Moran (David Lloyd Renfrew) 11-8 11-7 11-4 to claim the boys’ under-19 title in the Scottish Junior Championships, while Lisa Aitken took the girls’ under-19 crown after defeating her Aberdeen clubmate, Robyn Hodgson, 11-5 11-5 11-5.  

Mhairi Charlton, runner-up in the Scottish Junior Open in December, made it an Aberdeen double by winning the under-17 title, while Kirsty Lobban (Inverness) took the girls’ under-13. 

Kirsty’s older brother, Greg, scored an upset win over top seed Douglas Kempsell (Waverley) in the under-17, while Calum Johnston (under-15), Rory Stewart (under-13) and Ben Coates (under-11) were the other winners in the boys’ events.
