Clyne beats top seed in US

Scotland’s Alan Clyne scored a great win over the French top seed Stephanie Galifi in the first round of the FASSP Luke’s Open in New Canaan in America.

Following the relatively comfortable 11-4 11-8 15-13 victory, the Inverness 21-year-old said: I’d like to thank my coaches for giving me a game plan, and one that I actually stuck to.”

Galifi was generous after suffering the defeat from the unseeded Scot who is ranked 100 in the world. “Alan just played too well for me today. He played a really good match,” he said.

Clyne will now meet Colombia’s No.6 Bernardo Sampa in the quarter-finals.

Scottish Champion Stuart Crawford failed to get past the qualifying rounds. He lost 7-1 4-11 8-11 to Namibia’s Ryan Thomson.
