Clyne and Crawford overseas

Alan Clyne continues to pull out shock results. Having qualified for the NSC Series in Kuala Lumpur, the Scottish Champion then knocked out No.7 seed Nafahizam Adrian (Malaysia) 11-3 11-3 11-9 to reach the quarter-finals.

But the prospect of back-to-back semi-final appearances on the Malaysian Tour disappeared with a 9-11 11-7 8-11 7-11 defeat from Dutchman Dylan Bennett.

At the Salzburg Open in Austria, Scotland’s Stuart Crawford survived a marathon qualifying event to make it into the last 16. In the second round, he beat Austria’s Rene Mijs 11-7 11-13 11-9 9-11 11-6.

“It turned out to be quite a physical match,” said Crawford. “But I slowed it down in the final game and managed to extract a few more errors. Now I just hope I play even better in the main draw.”

Crawford’s reward for winning the five match thriller is a tie against England’s No.4 seed, Lewis Walters.
