Clyne and Crawford head Scots

Alan Clyne and Stuart Crawford, the Scots who both scored breakthrough victories on the Professional Squash Association circuit last year, have been named in Scotland’s team for an innovative test series against Wales at Heriot-Watt University.

The matches on January 7-8 will involve both countries top players – seven men and four women – and Edinburgh teenager Chris Ferguson will make his first full Scotland appearance.

Last week, Chris was the top Scot in finishing in seventh place at the Scottish Junior Open at Heriot-Watt.

The women’s line-up includes the leading under-19 player, Lisa Aitken, and veteran Senga Macfie.

Scottish team: Men: Alan Clyne (Inverness), Stuart Crawford (Irvine), Chris Ferguson (Waverley), Alistair Gorrie (Aberdeen), Jamie Macaulay (Shetland), Lyall Paterson (Stonehaven), Chris Small (Newlands)

Women: Lisa Aitken (Montrose), Alex Clark (Edinburgh), Claire Kidd (Aberdeen), Senga Macfie (Edinburgh)
