

Clyne continues to shine on US professional circuit
Scottish Champion Alan Clyne again showed his promise by reaching the quarter-finals of the Rhode Island Open in America.
The 21-year-old, who recently won his first professional tournament in Virginia this season, upset the form book by beating No.5 seed David Phillips (Canada) 11-8 4-11 11-6 11-1in the first round.
He also put on a fine effort against Egypt’s El Halaby in the last eight before bowing out 11-8 4-11 6-11 9-11. It augurs well for the future.
Meanwhile, Stuart Crawford was the last Scot standing at the Northern Open after reaching the quarter-finals in Manchester. He lost 5-11 8-11 6-11 to England’s Jim Rooney.
Alistair Gorrie went out in straight games in the first round against Steven Meads, while Jamie MacAulay, who ad come through qualifying, took Andrew Widdison to five game before going out 8-11 in the decider.
