Gorrie thilled as Aberdeen become European squash club champions
Aberdeen Squash Racquets Club are celebrating a stunning success after winning the European club championships at the weekend.
Captain Alistair Gorrie and team-mates Simon Parke, Daryl Selby and Alan Clyne remained unbeaten in Gothenburg to take the title.
The Scottish Premier League champions were No. 1 seeds in Sweden but lived up to their tag to the delight of Gorrie.
He said: “It was a fantastic week which finished on a high despite getting off to a bad start. I managed to lose my passport and had to go to Glasgow to get a new one.
“Thankfully I didn’t miss any games and we quickly settled into the task, winning our pool games without dropping a set and then gaining revenge for our loss last year by beating Odense of Denmark in the quarter-finals 4-0.
“We then beat the holders Paderborner of Germany in the semi-finals before claiming the title against another German team from Worms, the Black and Whites.
“It was a fantastic experience playing in the glass court in the middle of a packed shopping mall and by winning the event we have qualified for next year’s finals which will be held in Pontefract.”
