Ten Scots included in new-season British team
Snowsport GB has announced the senior team skiers selected to represent the British Alpine Ski Team at FIS, Europa Cup or World Cup level for the 2008/2009 season.
34 year-old Alain Baxter (Stirlingshire) makes his return as the elder statesman of a 15-strong senior squad that includes ten Scots and sees the promotion of 19 year-old Sophie Readman (Dunblane) from the Scottish into the British team.
Last month, the Dunblane based skier enjoyed an impressive end to her season with a 1st place in a FIS slalom and 2nd in GS in Courchevel, France.
In April she also finished 4th in downhill at the British Land National Alpine Ski Championships in Meribel and followed that result with a 3rd in GS at the British National Junior Championships.
Kenneth Morton, the 21 year-old from Glenfarg, Perthshire is also part of the senior team after competing well on the US alpine circuit this season.
The line-up of Scots in the senior British Alpine Ski Team for 2008/09 is as follows:
Alain Baxter (Stirlingshire)
Noel Baxter (Aviemore)
Finlay Mickel (Edinburgh)
Andy Noble (Edinburgh)
Pamela Thorburn (Glasgow)
Sophie Readman (Dunblane)
Melissa Piper (Auchterarder)
Kenneth Morton (Perthshire)
Douglas Crawford (Glasgow)
Jan Kochalski (Aberdeenshire)
English skiers selected into senior squad include Britain's no.1 ranked female alpine skier, Chemmy Alcott from London and Edward Drake.
