Norton sets sights on 2014 Winter Olympics

Carrbridge ski racer Emma Norton has set her sights on a starring role at the 2014 Winter Olympics as she prepares to consign an injury plagued couple of years to the history books.

The 20-year-old will go under the knife in the coming months to solve a troublesome knee problem which kept her out of this year's British Championships.

Former Kingussie High School pupil, Norton, has been battling through the pain barrier this season as she continued her development in the United States only for her knee to flare up again and force her to head home in March.

And despite the injury ending the Loughborough University student's hopes of heading to next year's Olympics, she insists her time will come when the Olympic flame heads to Sochi in 2014.

"Being in America was a great experience unfortunately injuries have curtailed my bid to go to 2010 so 2014 is a real aim for me," said Norton.

"I was following the programme set down by Snowsports GB but wanted to do things for myself and I went to Mammoth in California which was good and I enjoyed the change.

"I picked up a knee injury before I went and battled through the pain but then it got to March and I had to stop and come home, which was early but it had to be done.

"I am due to have an operation on my right knee just to sort the injury out once and for good and hopefully then I can go onwards and upwards."
