Snowboarder Lesley McKenna to make stab at Olympic glory in Vancouver
Snowboarder Lesley McKenna has finally revealed her intentions to compete at her third Winter Olympic Games next year – despite initially insisting she may not.
Earlier in the year McKenna – who saw her funding cut after the Turin Games in 2006 – admitted travelling to Vancouver in February was the last thing on her mind.
However after much deliberation McKenna – Britain’s most successful ever snowboarder having competed at two Olympics and picked up six World Cup podium finishes –admitted Vancouver is now at the top of her agenda.
“I am happy to announce that I have decided to aim to compete in the halfpipe event at the Vancouver Olympics,” said McKenna.
“I am currently looking good as far as meeting selection criteria is concerned and hope to make the British Olympic Team for the third time.
“For the last couple of seasons, alongside halfpipe riding, I have been concentrating on developing my coaching skills.
“I have found this highly rewarding and challenging and will continue in this role after the Winter Olympics.”
