Alan McManus determined to regain his place in the snooker big leagues
Snooker ace Alan McManus insists Scottish snooker is stronger than ever as he bids to regain his place among the world’s finest – with the help of a new cue.
The 37-year-old maintained his spot in the top 16 for 16 consecutive seasons before dropping down to 37th in the world rankings.
But ‘Angles’, as McManus is known for his unerring safety accuracy, believes his new weapon of choice can catapult him back alongside fellow Scots John Higgins, Stephen Maguire, Graeme Dott and seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry.
“Having to qualify for the major tournaments is a new experience for me but it’s not a difficult one to take,” said McManus – the two-time World Championship semi-finalist.
“There’s so much strength in depth in Scotland, let alone the rest of the world. This is as strong the game has been in my career.
“I enjoyed the summer when I started using a new cue and it has given me a fresh lease of life - I firmly believe in the next couple of years I can break back into the elite 16.”
And McManus revealed his passion for the sport still burns as strongly as ever.
“I’m still very much enjoying the game,” he added. "I'm in the club every day practicing so I'm determined to keep going."
