World snooker update - Higgins and Maguire make safe passage into last eight
Two-time former champion John Higgins admitted Lady Luck had smiled on him after surviving a final frame decider to see off qualifier Jamie Cope and reach the quarter finals of the World Championships.
The world no.5, who won the title in 1998 and 2007 - fought from 11-9 and 12-10 down before eventually sealing a 13-12 victory over Stoke-born Cope at The Crucible.
On a day of high drama the tension proved too much for two fans who collapsed, while Higgins also revealed messages from his wife had ensured he didn't wilt under the pressure.
"To be honest I thought I was out at 12-10," said Higgins, 33. "I had texts from my wife Denise telling me to get my finger out.
"I knew he wouldn't bottle it. He's not that kind of player and I punched the air in the end as I was so proud of myself.
"I was just lucky that he didn't really get a clear-cut chance to win the match."
Meanwhile, Glasgow's Stephen Maguire saw off Mark King 13-6 to book a last eight date with Neil Robertson.
The world No.2 led 10-6 heading in to the final session and quickly reeled off the three frames required.
