John Higgins exits from Grand Prix to Neil Robertson
John Higgins’ bid to become the first man to win five Grand Prix titles ended in disappointment as Neil Robertson upset the odds to secure a 6-5 semi-final victory.
The Scot, in front of his home crowd at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall, produced some inspired snooker to come from two frames to tie the match at 5-5.
But it was not to be as Australian Robertson took advantage of a Higgins mistake to book his place in the final where he face China's Ding Junhui.
Robertson hit breaks of 114 and 130 in the early exchanges but defending champion Higgins dug deep to leave the match intriguingly poised at 3-3.
A Higgins miss in the seventh frame and another century break from Robertson in the eighth seemingly gave the Australian one foot in the final at 5-3.
Yet as so often in his career, Higgins produced some of his best snooker with his back to the wall and took the game to a deciding 11th frame.
But it was not to be as the pressure told with a succession of mistakes including a missed brown allowed Robertson to progress to the first ever non-British final.
