John Higgins fights back to edge out O’Sullivan in Glasgow
John Higgins thrilled the home crowd at the Glasgow Grand Prix by coming from behind to beat Ronnie O’Sullivan 5-4.
The world champion appeared to be heading for the exit when he trailed 4-3 but after levelling he hit a superb break of 94 in the decider.
But the wizard of Wishaw admitted he was far from his best in the win over the unpredictable O’Sullivan.
“For some reason I was really on edge and was all over the place – if Ronnie had upped his game he would have beaten me,” said Higgins.
“People expect a high quality match when I play Ronnie but sometimes you do not produce.
“I missed quite a few shots and that’s what it has been like when I have played Ronnie recently.”
Neil Robertson and Joe Perry also booked their places in the last eight with 5-2 wins over Ken Doherty and Barry Pinches while Mark Allen beat Jamie Cope 5-3.
