Hendry confident going into clash with old foe Mark Williams
Scottish snooker legend Stephen Hendry insists his hunger for another major title remains as strong as ever as he prepares to face Wales’ Mark Williams on Thursday.
While fellow Scot John Higgins drew England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan in the clash of the titans, Hendry remains hopeful of progressing to the quarter finals after being paired with old adversary Williams.
And with four Grand Prix titles under his belt already, 40-year-old Hendry maintains there is life in the old dog yet.
He said: “I still love the game and I'm hitting the ball well in practice but I have a fault and the trouble is I don't know when it's going to happen.
“In practice I never miss, that's what keeps me going. If I missed in practice I probably wouldn't come here.
“It's just that I've not been getting the results because of a bit of confidence you get from a run of victories.
“I was number one for eight years in a row in the 90s, but my main aim is to get back into the top eight at the very least.”
Also in action on Thursday, Glasgow’s Stephen Maguire takes on China’s Ding Junhui.
