Stephen Hendry progresses into the second round in Glasgow
Former world snooker champion Stephen Hendry progressed into the second round of the Grand Prix at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow on Monday night.
Hendry, who is a seven-time world champion, took a 3-1 lead against Matthew Selt before wrapping up a 5-2 victory and is still on course to clinch his fifth tournament crown.
Hendry said he had felt "pretty comfortable" during his win over Selt.
"I played one or two bad shots. My concentration was very good, and I just stayed focused,” he said.
“The job in the first round is to win the game - it's not about looking good or playing your best. There's plenty of time to do that.
“I am playing well in practice, and my goal for this season is to replicate that form where it matters. If I do that I can break back into the top eight.”
Meanwhile, Barry Pinches bundled former world champion Shaun Murphy out of the Grand Prix in the first round.
Murphy missed a crucial yellow at 4-3 and that was all the opening Pinches needed to fight back for a 5-4 victory.
