Hendry hits form when needed at the Crucible

Seven-time champion Stephen Hendry produced an impressive comeback to beat Mark Williams in the World Championship first round.

Former world champion Williams was leading 7-5 at the Crucible but Hendry won five frames on the spin to advance to a second round clash against either Liang Wenbo or Ding Junhui.

"I didn't truly believe I could win," he admitted.

"However, I think there is something is inside me that doesn't allow myself to give up.

"I just kept plugging away."

Fellow Scot Graeme Dott, another former world champion, also edged a close match, 10-8 against England's Barry Hawkins.

The 2006 world champion has endured a tough time of late, battling depression and a broken wrist but believes he could be close to rediscovering his best form.
