Davis ready for world assault

ABERDEEN’S Mark Davis will pit his wits against the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Shaun Murphy after qualifying for the 6-red World Championships.

Davis booked his place in the tournament – dubbed the Twenty20 of snooker – after taking the Scottish 6-red crown in Glasgow.

The 22-year-old – based at Riley’s club in Aberdeen – will now fly to the Ireland for the tournament which kicks off in Killarney on December 15.

“I am delighted to have won,” said Davis after sweeping aside Michael Maguire in the final at the Masters Centre.

“It will be great to go up against some of the best in the business and it is a very exciting version of the game.

“It encourages players to take chances but it gets the nerves jangling because if you miss, you get punished.

“It is all about what the supporters want and this is the way it seems to be going. I enjoy it though and I cannot wait to get to Killarney to compete.”
