Medals for Scots in Sydney

Two Scots won shooting medals at the Youth Olympics in Syndey this weekend.

Rory McAlpine was the star of the show, claiming gold in the Men's 50m prone rifle event.  He just edged out fellow Brit Matthew Hall, who claimed silver.

Rory suffered not one, but two, target failures, and had to re-start his match after the first one and move a second time as a precaution when the rubber in the Sius Ascor unit on both lanes jammed.

The young Scot kept his cool throughout, despite finishing his match 45 minutes after the remainder of the field, and the positions remained unchanged after the final.

Meanwhile Falkrik's Jen McIntosh took bronze in the Women's 3P Rifle, just behind England's Sheree Cox, who won silver.

Sheree entered the final in first place with a qualification round of 560, with a four point lead, with Jen ten points further back in third place.  Sheree started well in the final, but two loose shots in the middle lost her the top spot, with Jen safely retaining third place.
