MacDonald encouraged by Kyles performance despite final defeat
Kyles Athletic veteran Fraser MacDonald insisted the future of the club was in good hands despite losing the Camanachd Cup final to Fort William.
The An Aird outfit had one hand on the trophy with 20 minutes left after goals from Victor Smith, James Clark and Gary Innes before MacDonald spearheaded an unlikely comeback with his 75th minute strike.
Two goals from Duncan Kerr leveled proceedings before a Clark effort with just two minutes remaining ensured Fort William secured the prestigious trophy for the third consecutive season.
But MacDonald, 39, was adamant the young Kyles side had done themselves justice at Mossfield Park and had a great chance of going one better next season.
“I’m really proud of how this young team fought back from 3-0 down,” said MacDonald.
“It looked like we were dead and buried but credit to the lads for clawing themselves back into the match.
“It’s been a privilege to play with these guys and the potential here is fantastic. It will be a tough learning curve but I’ve got no doubt these boys will be back.”
