Sailor Dobson left on dry land

Helensburgh sailor Charlotte Dobson was relieved to stay on dry land on day three of the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta in Weymouth.

Blustery conditions meant only three of thirteen classes made it out on the water, with winds gusting up to 30 knots.

But three top-ten finishes in her opening four races have been enough to see the 20-year-old sit fifth in the Radial standings and Dobson was quick to admit she would prefer the wind to drop.

“I much prefer sailing in the lighter winds so I have managed to hang in there so far, but I’m hoping the winds die down a bit later in the week,” said the Edinburgh University graduate.

Meanwhile, fellow Helensburgh sailor Luke Patience and his partner Stuart Bithell remain in third place after there was no racing in the 470 class, while Inverclyde’s Mark Andrews stays 11th in the Finn class.
