Sailing legend Shirley Robertson tips young Scot Charlotte Dobson for the top
Double Olympic champion Shirley Robertson is tipping fellow Scot Charlotte Dobson to inherit the mantle from Britain?s golden generation of sailing.
The 23-year-old from Helensburgh only just missed out on qualifying for last year's Beijing Olympics after being included on a four-person shortlist for the Laser Radial class but is determined to put the record straight in three years' time.
And Robertson, who was back on the water for JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, has seen enough of Dobson to be reminded of a younger version of herself.
She said: "When I see Charlotte Dobson, I see a lot of myself when I was her age.
"She has got the same determination ? the way she ploughs her own furrow and has got where she has got because of her own will.
"She has great tenacity and is very analytical about everything. If she does something wrong, she wants to know why. She has got the sailing ability and also the determination, she is going to go really far.
"She sails single-handed and narrowly missed going to the last Olympics but I don?t think it will be long before everyone knows who she is."
