Patient Scot sails closer to 2012
Luke Patience has sailed one step closer to winning a berth at the London 2012 Olympic Games after recently being selected as an official training partner in the 470 dinghy class for English pair Nick Rogers (31) and Joe Glanfield (28) ahead of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Rhu based Patience, who has come through the ranks of RYA Scotland's National Training squad before being selected to join Skandia Team GBR, will also be joined by his crew mate Chris Grube (22) from Wales.

Patience said: "We're thrilled to bits that we've been given the opportunity to help Nick and Joe go for gold in China.

Being able to train with these guys is a real honour and is further confirmation that our boat speed is really good.

We will undoubtedly learn a lot from them in the next few months which will hopefully give us a great chance of going for gold at the 2012 Olympics in London."

The choice of Patience and Grube as training partner instead of Nic Asher and Elliot Willis (England) and who recently won the 2008 470 World Championship is an indication of the 2012 Olympic potential selectors see in the young Scot.

Said Roy McCubbin, RYA Scotland's High Performance Manager: "The fact that Nick and Joe respect Luke and Chris' abilities enough to have them play this massively important role says a huge amount about their potential.

"You would only get selected to help in this way if you're among the best in the country and are going to work really hard for them. Luke and Chris will also have the opportunity to take part in high-level training at the venue for the 2012 Olympics which will help them in the future."
