Patience progresses

Helensburgh sailor Luke Patience underlined his growing reputation by moving up into third position in the 470 class on day two of the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta at Weymouth.

Patience and partner Stuart Bithell were shock silver medal winners at the World Championships in Denmark at the end of August - just two weeks after joining forces as a team.

And the duo - led by helm Patience - proved their Scandinavian heroics were no fluke by grabbing second and third-place finishes in tricky conditions on day two at the London 2012 Olympic venue.

"We came here wanting to get into the top ten to prove that Denmark wasn't a lucky result and it went ok today," said Aberdeen-born Patience.

Elsewhere Inverclyde sailor Mark Andrews had another impressive day in Weymouth - ending 11th overall in the Finn class.

Andrews' 16th and 15th place finishes ensured he remained in touch with the top ten in a class led by fellow Brit Giles Scott whose first and second place finishes fired him to the top of the standings.

Charlotte Dobson grabbed ended the day in fifth in the Laser Radial class.
