Mark Andrews frustrated after failing to qualify for Finn medal race
Inverclyde sailor Mark Andrews admitted his frustration after failing to qualify for the Finn medal race at the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta in Weymouth.
Andrews, who hails from Largs, finished 19th and 20th in his final races to finish 14th overall and miss out on a top ten finish.
“It has been a tough week for me,” he admitted.
“I have been trying out a new boat and the conditions were quite testing, with the wind coming off the shore it was prone to shift.
“I haven’t done as well as I wanted this week, I struggled to get a grip with the boat, and today was quite up and down.
“It has been a tough year so I am looking forward to a couple of weeks’ rest before starting the winter training.”
Meanwhile, Helensburgh’s Luke Patience and his partner Stuart Bithell maintained their third place in the men’s 470 standing, behind British team-mates Nic Asher and Elliot Willis to secure a place in Saturday’s medal race.
Charlotte Dobson endured her worst two finishes of the week, but despite dropping three places to eighth overall, her 21st and 47th placed finishes were enough to secure her a place in the medal race, alongside British team-mates Andrea Brewster and Alison Young.
