Weekend fixtures produce mixed fortunes for Scottish clubs in Wales
Glasgow Warriors picked up their third win of the season with a comprehensive victory over Cardiff Blues in Wales.
Tries from Thom Evans and Johnnie Beattie gave the Scottish side a healthy margin and a late surge from Cardiff was not enough as the Warriors ran out 21-5 winners.
Glasgow dominated the first half but only had two Dan Parks penalties to show for their efforts until Evans’ score on the stroke of half-time.
Parks notched another penalty just after the interval before Beattie went over for a converted score on 64 minutes to put the visitors well in control at 21-0.
Sam Warburton touched down for the Blues in the 72nd minute but the match had already been won by the Scottish side.
Meanwhile Edinburgh slipped to fifth in the Magners League after their second defeat of the season at Ospreys.
The Welsh side were organised from the off and scored four tries en route to a 31-10 victory.
Edinburgh took the lead through a Phil Goodman penalty in the fifth minute but two tries in the space of three minutes saw Ospreys take a stranglehold on the game.
Tommy Bowe went over first for the home side in the 14th minute with number eight Ryan Jones scoring the Welsh side’s second.
Lee Byrne’s converted try in the 27th minute extended Osprey’s lead before Tim Visser rescued some pride for the Scots to ensure a 24-10 scoreline at the interval.
But Edinburgh failed to take advantage of Welsh international scrum half Mike Phillips’ early second-half yellow card and watched in despair as Jonathan Thomas scored a breakaway try with seven minutes left to seal the result.
Premier Division round-up

Dougie Fife, Ross Weston, John Cox, Andrew Binikos, Andy McMahon, Richard Sneddon and Colin White each got on the scoresheet in the seven-try blitz.
However, Melrose kept the pressure on the leaders with a seven-try bonanza of their own, beating West of Scotland 44-7.
Ayr slumped to their first loss of the season with a narrow 24-22 defeat at Dundee HSFP.
Elsewhere, Watsonians beat Edinburgh Acads 17-7, Heriots Rugby Club saw off Glasgow Hawks 24-15 and Selkirk won away at Stewart’s Melville FP 30-22.
Meanwhile, Premier Two leaders Biggar dropped their first points of the season in a 5-5 stalemate against Haddington at Hartreemill.
The home try was scored by the impressive Michael McKeand, after the visitors had taken the lead courtesy of Richard Scott score.
In another shock, second-placed Stirling County crashed 11-8 at lowly GHA.
However, Aberdeen GSFP notched up an 29-10 bonus point win against Kelso.
Hawick also recorded a bonus point win, this time beating Dunfermline away 29-10.
Elsewhere, Kirkcaldy beat Gala 12-10 and Peebles beat Jed Forrest 27-16.
