Glasgow Warriors edged out by Biarritz in Heineken Cup opener
Glasgow Warriors’ European campaign got off to an agonising start after a narrow defeat at home to Biarritz.
The Scottish side had their noses in front for much of the game but a second half try from England flanker Magnus Lund led the French team to a 22-18 victory at Murrayfield.
Scottish international Dan Parks was in clinical mood with the boot and kicked the Warriors into a 9-0 lead in the first 16 minutes.
The fly half notched another penalty in the 27th minute after Biarritz had responded with six points but a second Dimitri Yachvili penalty and a Marcelo Bosch drop goal made it 12-12 at the interval.
A Parks penalty edged the Scots ahead again just after the break but on 49 minutes Lund went over for his converted try to put the Frenchmen 19-15 up.
Parks kicked the Warriors within a point with another penalty but after Yachvili had restored the four point margin, the Scottish side had little answer to a stubborn French backline.
