First win for Scotland at rugby Junior World Championships
Scotland confirmed their place in third in Pool B at the Junior World Championships as they clung on for a nail-biting victory over hosts Japan.
After defeats to both England and Samoa, Scotland arrived in Tokyo knowing only a win would do if they were to avoid being the Pool B whipping boys.
Marshalled by captain Fraser Brown, Scotland flew out of the blocks and got off to the perfect start when Grant Anderson touched down on 28 minutes.
And although Peter Horne missed the conversion, it got better for the visitors when Chris Fusaro blitzed his way over for Scotland?s second try of the game.
This Horne was on target with the conversion to give Scotland a 12-pooint lead at the half-time interval.
The hosts, spurred on by a vociferous home support, roared back and Naoya Minamihashi gave japan hoped with a try 11 minutes after the break.
Kenta Nakasone added the extras to reduce the deficit to five but Scotland held firm to secure their frist win in Japan and book a clash with Fiji, who finished third in Pool C.
