Scots reflect on mixed success on Twickenham Sevens outing
Scotland coach Stephen Gemmell admitted his troops didn't know whether to laugh or cry having reached their first semi-final of the season at the London Sevens.
A disappointing 17-12 defeat to Kenya was followed up by an impressive 12-7 win over Fiji and a 40-0 routing of the USA as Scotland topped Pool C to reach the last eight.
Gemmell's men then edged out Portugal 22-21 in a nail-biting encounter but crashed 26-12 to eventual winners England at Twickenham.
And while Gemmell insists his troops can be proud of their exploits at rugby HQ, he revealed his players had victory in their sights.
"It was their first-ever Cup semi-final for this team this season so you really can't take that away from the guys," he said.
"The boys are bitterly disappointed though. We got England back to 14-12 on their own patch and only one or two poor decisions cost us - we tried to force it a couple of times.
"But we'll go away and be proud of what we have achieved and we'll definitely be looking to build on that next week."
