Scotland sweat on Paterson's fitness ahead of autumn tests
Scotland are hopeful full-back Chris Paterson will be available to train this week after undergoing intensive treatment on his infected foot.
The 31-year-old was placed on a drip and spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday in hospital – missing Edinburgh’s Magners League clash with Newport Gwent Dragons on Sunday.
But with Scotland not taking on Fiji until November 14, head coach Andy Robinson is confident Paterson will enjoy at least seven days training before the autumn internationals begin.
Edinburgh team-mate Kyle Traynor also joined up with the 35-strong squad amid concerns over the fitness of Gloucester prop Alasdair Dickinson.
Dickinson suffered a shoulder injury on Guinness Premiership duty last month and Scotland team doctor James Robson admits Dickinson’s chances of facing Fiji at Murrayfield are hanging in the balance.
“Ally will be going to Spire Murrayfield Hospital for some isokinetic testing as part of his assessment process following the shoulder injury he sustained last month.
“This testing basically involves exercising the shoulder in various positions."
