Women's performance coach backs Scots to compete with world's best
Scotland women’s performance manager Jo Hull believes women’s rugby is going from strength to strength, but will need more funding to catch world leaders England.
The national team qualified for the 2010 World Cup in England after beating Holland 38-10 in May to finish top of Pool A in the FIRA European Championship.
And Hull, who combines her role at the SRU with a player/coach position at Darlington Mowden Park Sharks, insists the foundations are in place to push Scotland Women up the world rankings.
“Our big focus has been to qualify for the World Cup, which we have done, so we are all delighted,” said Hull.
“We’ve now got a structure in place for up and coming players, which we didn’t have prior to the last World Cup.
“Were evolving as an organisation and although there is a lot of work to do, things are definitely going in the right direction.
“We’re a long way behind England at the moment as they have so much more staff, players and financial backing, but the future of women’s rugby in Scotland is looking pretty good.”
