Player ratings: Scotland v Italy

15. Hugo Southwell  - Kicked well and was adventurous running out of defence but almost gifted the Italians a try through an intercepted pass. 6

14. Simon Danielli - Completed a precise backs-move to score late in first half. Almost scored a second and made a try-saving tackle in the second half which earned him the Man of the Match title. 9
 
13. Max Evans – Had few opportunities to prove his pace but Max managed to give the Italian midfield a headache all afternoon. 7
 
12. Graeme Morrison – Struggled to break the line but an all-round sturdy performance in the midfield from the Glasgow man. 6

11. Thom Evans – Always hungry for the ball, his pace proved precious for Scotland throughout. Did the majority of the work for Scotland’s second try. 8

10. Phil Godman – Failed to convert an early penalty but made amends with a commanding second half performance, controlling the game for a significant period. 7

9. Mike Blair – Led from the front as always, few signs of brilliance but a solid performance nonetheless. 8

1. Allan Jacobsen – Played his part in a strong Scottish scrum and also provided the occasional burst in the loose. 7

2. Ross Ford – Some wayward throws but Ford was noticeable in the loose for Scotland. 6

3. Euan Murray – Scotland’s scrum was sturdier than previous two matches, this man may have something to do with that. Lived up to expectations. 8
      

4. Jason White – Arguably his best performance of the championship. Worked hard at the coalface and his efforts in the lineout deserves a mention. 7

5. Alastair Kellock – Worked well as a target man in the lineout and carried the ball into contact well. 7

6. Alasdair Strokosch – Made an early try-saving tackle. His power and strength are invaluable in the Scottish pack. 7

8. Simon Taylor – A few signs of indiscipline were eclipsed by an ever-present desire to put his body on the line. 7

7. John Barclay – His unseen work at the breakdown was a blessing once again, provided a smooth link between the pack and the backs. 7

Replacements:

16. Dougie Hall – Continued from where Ford left off. 6

17. Alasdair Dickinson – Almost created a Scottish try in open play. 7

18. Kelly Brown – Worked hard to get in amongst it. 6

19. Scott Gray – Dived over for Scotland’s second. 7

20. Chris Cusiter – Almost touched down, did well to step up to the mark. 7

21. Chris Paterson – Blood replacement for Godman in first 5 minutes, during which he converted two penalties. Replaced Southwell at full-back in the second half. 8

22. Nick De Luca – Made a few darting runs. 6
