Pinder calls time on his Glasgow career

Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Sam Pinder has decided to call it a day at Firhill Stadium to take up a coaching position in Hong Kong.

The 30-year-old has struggled to find a regular starting place for the club in recent years and made only five appearances last term, prompting his move into coaching.

His opportunities looked set to be limited even further this season after Warriors head coach Sean Lineen brought in fellow scrum-half Chris Cusiter from Perpignan.

Pinder joined Glasgow in the summer of 2003 and scored a try on his Celtic League debut in the September victory against Cardiff.

Although born in New Zealand, Pinder qualified for Scotland as his paternal grandmother was born in Cockenzie, East Lothian and he represented his adopted country twice - both times in 2006 against South Africa.

Pinder will be hoping to put his degree in physical education from Auckland College of Education and his New Zealand RFU level 1 and 2 coaching certificates to good use when he ventures to the Far East.
