Veteran Paterson hopeful ahead of Lions squad announcement
Scotland's all-time leading points scorer Chris Paterson is crossing his fingers he can make it third time lucky and force his way into the Lions squad which will be announced by Ian McGeechan on Tuesday.
Edinburgh star Paterson, who possesses the deadliest boot in world rugby, admits a Lions call up would be the icing on the cake of a glittering career.
He said: "I was only 22 in 2001 and it was not the be all and end all. In 2005 I was delighted with how I performed in the Six Nations but I was not chosen and it was not to be.
"It is the pinnacle of any player's career to be selected for the Lions because of the history.
"It is the ultimate goal to be honest. If it does not happen I will always be proud of what I have achieved.
"I am a big believer in fate, what will be, will be."
