Chris Paterson fires Edinburgh top of Magners Laegue
A starring display from Scotland full back Chris Paterson lifted Edinburgh to the top of the Magners League table and ensured Munster's stuttering campaign continued with a 12-7 defeat.
Last season's champions have now lost three of their opening six fixtures and it was all down to the boot of Paterson.
He kicked three penalties before the break and one after and despite David Wallace's try, converted by Ronan O'Gara, the Irish province couldn't avoid the defeat.
Paterson drew first blood for Edinburgh when he kicked a penalty in the first minute before adding two penalties in the last ten minutes of the half to give the home side a 9-0 cushion at the interval.
The home side got off to the worst possible start after the break when they allowed Wallace to cross in the 52nd minute.
British and Irish Lion O'Gara added the extras to reduce the deficit to two points but Paterson hit back five minutes later with a penalty to seal an impressive victory.
Edinburgh coach Rob Moffat admits the win over Magners League Munster was not a classic but was still an important milestone for his side.
He said: “The maturity comes from winning; our guys know how to win now. It’s not easy for our team because they want to play and tonight we didn’t get the chance to play our game, but that’s what makes it a good win.
“That maybe wasn't the best game in the world to watch, but that’s sometimes how games end up and we showed great character and maturity tonight.
“Being top of the table has very little bearing at this stage of the campaign. Ask me again next May if we are still there.”
