Euan Murray believes a change in attitude since moving south of the border has led to Lions call-up
Euan Murray believes his decision to quit Glasgow and join Northampton is a key reason behind his British Lions call-up.
Prop Murray is one of just two Scots in Ian McGeechan's touring party for this summer's Tests against world champion South Africa.
"I came down to England to play in the Premiership and improve my rugby and have changed my attitude to the game in the past year," he said.
"In the summer my attitude changed to rugby and I stepped things up. So I've worked as hard as I could all year and the results have now been rewarded, which I'm really pleased about."
Murray also credited Northampton coach Dorian West, also a former Lion, as key to his inclusion in McGeechan's pride.
"He's given me good coaching and direction and my scrummaging has improved under him," he added.
"My attitude towards it has changed so it's been really positive. Scrums in the Premiership are a lot harder than a lot of other places and if you pit yourself against the best every week you can only get better."
This summer's tour will be the first time Murray will have played in South Africa, although he played against the Boks in two games at Murrayfield.
"I've played South Africa twice and been beaten twice, but only narrowly," he said.
"They're one of the fittest, strongest, fastest sides I've played against ever, so it will be a massive task this summer.
"I'm looking forward to trying to win myself a starting place for the Lions and trying to get another overseas win."
