Still a long way to go for the Lions, says McGeechan
Lions coach Ian McGeechan claimed the hard-fought display in the 13-13 draw with the Emerging Springboks is still a million miles away from where the tourists need to be for the second Test.
Danwel Demas' last-gasp try was enough to end the non-Test team's 100per cent record after Keith Earls had grabbed the game's opening score.
And Scot McGeechan admitted few players had an opportunity to impress in horrendous conditions in Cape Town.
He said: "It was a million miles from what we want at the weekend.
"I feel sorry for the players who really wanted to play tonight. We probably tried to play too much in the second half. That gave them a chance to make inroads into the game.
"But we learned one or two things. You always look and learn a bit and I thought there were some good performances out there in those conditions. It'll give us a few discussion points.
"It was a potential banana skin that we've got through. It was disappointing to give away the try at the end but I thought the attitude was superb and the conditions were always going to be a leveller. There wasn't a lot of rugby played."
