Kenny Logan calls for London Scottish to become Scotland's 'third club'
English-based London Scottish can be the solution to the current Scotland national rugby team slump, according to former international Kenny Logan.
Frank Hadden's departure as Scotland boss marked the end of another sorry Six Nations, while once again both SRU controlled professional clubs Edinburgh and Glasgow were absent from the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.
In contrast, the champagne corks were popping at the Athletic Ground, where Brett Taylor's London Scottish were celebrating promotion from National Three South, the first stage of the long-term plan to re-establish the Exiles as a major force in English rugby.
And Exiles board member Logan, who won 70 international caps, believes London Scottish can fill the void left by the defunct Borders as Scotland's third club but only if the SRU make the first move.
He said: "There needs to be more effort to grow the game in Scotland and develop the players - but that's hard with only two clubs.
"Edinburgh and Glasgow have got lots of good young players on their books but they are not developing because they are not getting any game time.
"They have got older guys standing in their way but without playing regular rugby they will not improve and that is Scotland's loss.
"London Scottish have provided more international players to Scotland than any other club in history and we want to keep filling that role.
"The SRU know where we are but we have to get on with what we are doing.
"If they want to get involved and give us some of these players then great but they have to contact us. At the moment they are just watching us and not doing anything to help."
