Sean Lamont delighted to be back in the mix for Scotland
Sean Lamont insists his summer move to the Scarlets has breathed new life into his international career.
The 28-year-old swapped Northampton for the Scarlets in the close season and has caught the eye of new Scotland coach Andy Robinson.
Lamont was cast aside during last season’s dismal Six Nations campaign as Max and Thom Evans captured the headlines.
But Lamont and brother Rory have found favour with Robinson and will start against Fiji this weekend.
Lamont, who underwent knee reconstruction surgery two years ago, said: “I was surprised to get the call-up but I’ve been enjoying my rugby with the Scarlets and the move has reinvigorated my love for the game.
“I had to make the move – I was not quite firing at the end of last season – the rugby wasn’t going well and I think that was off the back of my injury.
“After being dropped into the Scotland ‘A’ squad and working with Andy he said that I wasn’t running into contact as hard as I should have been.
“That explains why I got dropped and my rugby had gone a bit stale but the move to Wales and the fresh ideas I’ve got have revitalised me.”
