Jones chasing Paterson's spot

New Edinburgh recruit Steve Jones has targeted a call up to the Scotland national squad after returning to his homeland from Newcastle Falcons.

The 26-year-old, who became Edinburgh's fifth signing of the summer on Tuesday, put pen to paper on a two-year contract for the Magners League side.

And Scotland A international Jones, a former Borders back, has vowed to challenge Chris Paterson for the number 15 jersey at both domestic and international level.

"I wanted to move back to Scotland because I've got aspirations to get into the national squad," said Jones.

"I know that both Chris and Jim (Thompson) are good players and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

"Chris is a world class kicker, so I fully understand it will be a difficult task to become first choice but I'm going to give it everything to make the jersey mine."
