Scotland lock Nathan Hines has been given the chance to stake his claim for a Lions test jersey after being handed a starting berth against Western Province on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Perpignan lock will wear the number five shirt for the fifth tour game in what is likely to be the last chance to impress ahead of the first test next weekend.

The Lions have one more tour game before taking on the World Champions, against Southern Kings on Tuesday, but test starters are unlikely to be risked in that match.

The Scottish trio of Ross Ford, Euan Murray and Mike Blair will all be praying for a decent run out against Western Province after being named on the replacements bench for the match at Newlands.

Meanwhile, England centre Riki Flutey starts his first game of the tour, Phil Vickery has been named skipper while Welsh flanker Martyn Williams starts after recovering from injury.
