Heriot's coach McKillop eyes Cup qualification

Heriot's head coach Bob McKillop insists the lure of qualifying for the new look British & Irish Cup will not distract his team from Sunday's Scottish Hydro Electric Cup final against Melrose.

The Edinburgh side just need a point to ensure a top-two finish ahead of Boroughmuir and gain qualification to the lucrative tournament from their final league match against Edinburgh Accies on Tuesday.

But McKillop has called on his side to roll up their sleeves ahead of two massive games in the space of 48 hours.

"Our priority is our next game, so the focus is 100 per cent on the cup final, he said. "However, we have to recognise that the ante has been upped with this new competition.

"We used to do this in the good old days, play back to back games - so they'll just have to grit their teeth and get on with it.

"We have to be realistic and recognise that if we qualify for it or Boroughmuir do it, it will differentiate us from the other Premier One clubs in Edinburgh."

The match is a repeat of last year's final in which Melrose came out 31-24 winners while Heriot?s overcame a 17-point deficit to win 49-41 in their last encounter in March.
