Magners League - Low and Paterson to stake Scotland claims on club duty
Low out to impress
Moray Low is relishing another opportunity to impress Scotland head coach Frank Hadden after being named in the Glasgow side for Friday's Magners League clash at Cardiff Blues.
The 24-year-old prop made his Test debut as a substitute in Saturday's RBS 6 Nations defeat in France and is one of two players who featured in Paris named in the Warriors XV.
He is now targeting a place in the squad for Scotland's clash with Italy on Saturday week, saying: "My next goal is to do what every young Scottish rugby player aspires to - to play for Scotland at Murrayfield."
He added: "We saw an improved performance against France and I feel we can still come good in the Six Nations.
"Our next big chance is against Italy and I'm looking to Friday night's game against Cardiff to help put my hand up for a place in next weekend's 22."
Flanker Kelly Brown also came off the bench at the Stade de France and he will start in the back row for Glasgow in the Welsh capital.
The game also sees the return of scrum-half Mark McMillan following his recovery from a double knee operation, which kept him out for two-and-a-half months.
Meanwhile, Colin Shaw will make his first Warriors start of the season following his involvement with the Scotland sevens team.
Shaw lines up on the left wing in a new-look back division, which sees Ruaridh Jackson partner Argentina's all-time record try scorer, Jose Maria Nunez Piossek, at centre. On the bench, West of Scotland full-back Peter Horne could make his senior Glasgow debut.
Paterson has chance to impress
Meanwhile Chris Paterson will look to stake a claim for a RBS 6 Nations recall when he plays for Edinburgh in Saturday's Magners League clash at Munster.
Scotland's record points-scorer controversially found himself on the bench for the opening two games of the tournament, with club-mate Hugo Southwell picked ahead of him at full-back.
Paterson and centre Nick De Luca are the only two Edinburgh players from the Scotland 22 which lost to France on Saturday who will start at Musgrave Park this weekend.
Like Paterson, De Luca was a second-half substitute at the Stade de France.
Edinburgh's other key Scotland internationals have all been rested for the clash against the European champions.
Also starting this weekend are outside centre Ben Cairns and back-row forward Allister Hogg - who captains the side - both of whom were dropped from national-team duty following the Six Nations opener against Wales.
New signing Scott MacLeod could make his Edinburgh debut after being named on the bench, as could Bruce McNeil.
Fellow prop Ryan Grant makes his first Magners League start for Edinburgh. Former Royal Signaller Grant, 23, has been handed the number three jersey and is aiming to make an impact in the front row.
Grant, who underwent groin surgery last month, said: "I'm really pleased to be given the chance to start for Edinburgh and I want to make the most of the opportunity.
"After experiencing a few injury problems, I've been waiting for an opportunity and now I want to take it with both hands and help Edinburgh win."
