Scotland coach Gemmell optimistic for Scottish sevens' futures
Coach Stephen Gemmell insists Scotland have finally proved themselves to be a force on the world stage after coming within a whisker of reaching the final of the Edinburgh Sevens.
Only an extra time try from South Africa's Gio Aplon sunk the Scots in the semi-final of their home leg of the IRB World Sevens Series at Murrayfield.
And after securing back-to-back last four finishes, Gemmell, who had the likes of Sean Lamont and Ally Hogg at his disposal, was beaming with pride at his players' performance over the last fortnight.
He said: "For this group of players to come together over the last couple of weeks and do what they've done has been tremendous.
"We've shown that we have players in Scotland who are good enough to compete against the best teams in the world.
"I understand that we have limited resources in Scotland and we're trying to fight on a lot of different fronts.
"It's a credit to the players who did come in that they fitted in and knuckled down and made a massive difference."
