Speedster Max Evans vows to up a gear in bid for Scotland spot
Glasgow star Max Evans admits he is going to have to take his game to new levels to secure the Scotland No.13 shirt with the 2011 World Cup just around the corner.
The 25-year-old was in sensational form for the Warriors in a season that saw him win his first Scotland cap against Canada in the Autumn Internationals and voted Magners League Player of the Year by the media.
But with Edinburgh's Ben Cairns also impressive, Evans maintains he cannot afford to rest on his laurels in Andy Robinson's new regime.
He said: "I had a good Six Nations last year in terms of getting my place there but it's still not cemented.
"I've got Ben Cairns breathing down my neck as we're both competing for that position and it'll be the same right up until the World Cup which is great, that's what you want.
"You don't want to feel like you can be slacking off during your club games. You've got to perform during those club games and that's what I want to be doing anyway, but there's another incentive there to be playing your best rugby with your club.
"If you're not playing well for your club then you're not going to be in a Scotland jersey so it's a real drive."
