Max Evans glad to be back in the thick of it for Glasgow
Glasgow centre Max Evans admits his Scotland selection chances are out of sight and out of mind as he prepares for his club comeback against Connacht tonight at Firhill.
Last week Evans turned out for Glasgow Hawks against Boroughmuir and is now back in the Warriors XV along with lock Richie Gray also making his first start of the season.
But while Andy Robinson’s options are thin in the ground in midfield, 26-year-old Evans believes he has a long way to go before his fitness reaches international standards.
He said: “It has been frustrating watching on the sidelines but the first big hit I got during the Hawks game was such a relief because strangely enough, you do miss the knocks and tumbles of rugby.
“I just want to get back at the pace that is best for me. It was good to get a run out last week and training has gone well.
“We have great strength in depth in the Scotland squad – Ben Cairns and Alex Grove have been playing well so I'm not really expecting anything. I am off the pace in that respect.
“I think it is safe to say that it will be a surprise if I'm involved in the Autumn tests - although if Andy Robinson wants to invite me along to train with the sqaud I'll be happy to do so.”
