Lineen counts of the costs of physical Euopean encounter as two players drop out
Glasgow head coach Sean Lineen has been rocked with the news that centre Rob Dewey and wing DTH Van Der Merwe will miss vital Magners League matches with broken bones.
Dewey broke his ankle and Van Der Merwe broke his wrist in the Warriors’ 22-18 Heineken Cup loss to Biarritz on Saturday.
The injury comes as a huge blow to Scottish international Dewey, who was making his Glasgow European debut, as the powerhouse will almost certainly miss the autumn international series in November.
The Warriors have recently suffered with an outbreak of flu amongst the camp and Lineen is desperate for the injured Max Evans, Peter Murchie and Graeme Morrison to return in time for Friday’s clash with the Newport Gwent Dragons.
Lineen said: “We're struggling right now – it's virtually a whole back line out – but you have to live with that.
“It's another big blow to lose Rob and DTH, but we hope to have Graeme and Chris back next week and we'll see how Max does in training before deciding whether he can come straight back in.”
