Scotland's new scrum coach Massimo Cuttitta unfazed by challenge ahead
Scotland's new scrum coach Massimo Cuttitta refused to press the panic button after watching Guinness Premiership crisis club Harlequins batter Edinburgh up front in their 33-16 victory.
Quins are not renowned as one of England’s best scrummaging outfits but they still comprehensively bossed the Edinburgh front five.
But Cuttitta insists attitude rather than ability is more important in an early stage of his project to put Scotland amongst the world’s elite scrummaging nations.
He said: “I would not be here if I did not believe that these boys were not capable of scrummaging well against the best teams in the world. They can, and they will, but it takes time.
“We need to improve the level right across the board – among all the Edinburgh props, all the Glasgow props, and then we'll have a better Scottish scrummage too.
“It's not a worry. Edinburgh have improved their scrummage a lot in the last two years and we have new guys coming through who maybe need some work. It is something we have to focus hard on across Scotland.”
