Chris Cusiter revelling in leading role for Scotland
Scotland’s Chris Cusiter has vowed to lead by example when he pulls on the captain’s armband for the clash with Fiji on Saturday.
The 27-year-old Glasgow Warriors scrum-half spent most of his international career playing second fiddle to skipper Mike Blair before the role was shared by head coach Andy Robinson.
Cusiter's leadership skills impressed Robinson when he captained the A side during last summer’s IRB Nations Cup.
And after being given the nod to lead Scotland for their opening autumn international at Murrayfield, Cusiter insisted he was up to the challenge.
“I've been around a wee while and I've learnt little bits from different captains that I've had," said Cusiter.
“The best captains that I've played under are the ones that lead by example and it's not so much about shouting or head-banging, it's about being a calm voice of authority when it's needed and getting on with your job, and that's what I intend to do.
“It's certainly one of the biggest moments of my rugby career to date. I've been around a few years but captaining Scotland is such a huge honour that it's going to be emotional and I'm pretty excited about it.”
